Julian Barnett, Ashleigh Leite & Sydney Skybetter | Gotham Dance Festival at The Joyce Theater

I wrapped up two weeks of photographing the Gotham Dance Festival at The Joyce Theater with Julian Barnett, Ashleigh Leite and Sydney Skybetter. I’ve worked with Sydney (and his hair)  in the studio as well as in the office (through Design Brooklyn) so I was extra excited to photograph skybetter + associates’ performances at The Joyce.

Having heard all about the Skybaby in photo sessions and meetings, I was thrilled that his beautiful son and wife Leticia also made an appearance at the theater.  My wife Nel was able to bring our daughter Gracie Friday afternoon, too.  Gracie’s first time seeing dance at the Joyce.

Sydney presented the world premiere of Temporary Matters and a revival of Halcyon. The skybetter + associates dancers looked awesome on the Joyce stage. We both agree it was epic.

To add to the show’s epic quality, Julian Barnett performed his solo Echologue.

And Ashleigh Leite Dance performed The Zoo, accompanied by Leite’s own original sound design.

So grateful for the past two weeks working in the theater with my beautiful wife Nel and absolutely amazing dance artists. Can’t wait to start the next big dance festival in my life – Jacob’s Pillow, here we come!

The photo of Ashleigh Leite’s “The Zoo” is INCREDIBLE! Look at their hair! Great movement. And Julian’s work looks really interesting based on these photos. And I love SkyFamily. Basically, I’m in love with this entire post.
